Vehicle registration in Cape Town
A vehicle that is new to the national register, such as an import, a rebuild or one that was deregistered, has to be registered before it can be licensed and driven. What you need depends on the vehicle’s history, so we start by telling you exactly what applies.
When you need this
- You have imported a vehicle
- A rebuilt or previously written-off vehicle needs to go back on the road
- A vehicle was deregistered and you want it registered again
How it works
- 01
Tell us about the vehicle
Send the details and we tell you which documents, clearances and tests apply before you gather anything.
- 02
We arrange clearance and tests
Where a police clearance or roadworthy is needed, we book it and take the vehicle through.
- 03
We register and licence it
We lodge the RLV application and let you know when the registration and licence are done.
